Global Land Programme 5th Open Science Meeting
The research group Climate Resilience of Human-made Ecosystems, Center for Climate Resilience, Augsburg 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】, Germany, was represented by Dr. Harison Kipkulei at this year’s Global Land Programme Open Science Meeting (GLPOSM5), which took place from 4th to 8th November in Oaxaca, Mexico. The GLP is a global interdisciplinary network of science and practice, working to foster understanding of land systems and the next generation of science-based solutions for local- to global-scale challenges. Dr. Kipkulei presented an oral talk on the integration of big data and crop modelling approaches for crop condition analysis and yield prediction in Kenya’s agricultural landscapes in the session, Redefining Landscapes: The Impact of GeoAI and Big Data on Earth observation. The presentation reflected on the role of big data as a potential solution for addressing data scarcity, especially the critical management data required for comprehensive analysis of agricultural landscapes and understanding the drivers of productivity. The presentation is part of the research focus of the research group, which involves advancing actionable and transdisciplinary knowledge on the impacts of climate change on land use and agriculture and adaptation in the context of global challenges such as food and nutrition security and sustainability. The research group also led the session on the role of smallholder farmers in future land systems, whereby researchers studying various aspects of smallholder agriculture in different parts of the globe shared insights on best practices and evidence of inclusive and just transformations towards improved livelihoods, resources access and active political participation. ?
