CHE ranking: good rating for physics and mathematics master's degree programs
The Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology at the 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】 of Augsburg can draw a positive balance: Its Master's degree courses in Mathematics and Physics have achieved excellent results in the new CHE 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】 Ranking 2024. This nationwide comparison of degree courses and study conditions was published by the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE) in mid-December. The two degree courses in Augsburg are characterized by a very good overall study situation, a wide range of courses and excellent support from the teaching staff. The two Master's degree courses in Mathematics and Physics achieved very good results in the latest CHE ranking. The placement of the courses in the ranking is based on student evaluations on site. In addition, lecturers are interviewed and further data is evaluated. “At the Institute of Physics, we strive to enable students to develop a very individual profile through small groups and a wide range of options. We are therefore naturally pleased that this is also appreciated by the students,” says Prof. Dr. Markus Heyl, Professor of Theoretical Physics. The general study situation, the range of courses on offer and the support provided by lecturers were rated highly in the ranking. Exercises and practicals take place in small groups in Augsburg. Individual profile development is possible thanks to the wide range of options in theoretical physics and experimental physics in the fields of quantum physics, materials physics and biophysics. The research orientation indicator scored above average. “The involvement of students in current research questions and projects is essential in order to provide them with the best possible training for professional life - whether in academia or industry,” explains the Managing Director of the Institute of Physics, Prof. Dr. Philipp Gegenwart. The institute is very strong in research. It has a high proportion of third-party funding and is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, e.g. at the DFG-funded Center for Electron Microscopy. With their final theses, students are directly involved in top international research projects. Students have the opportunity to move along the spectrum between pure basic research and research with a direct focus on application - depending on the future career they have in mind. The wide range of internships offered during the course, which can also be completed in local industrial companies, allows students to get to know individual areas. The Master's degree course in Mathematics at the 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】 of Augsburg covers the entire spectrum of modern mathematics. It offers students a wide range of specialization options to pursue their interests. The CHE ranking emphasizes the dedicated teaching and the good supervision ratio between lecturers and students. Current mathematical research is conducted at a high level at the 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】 of Augsburg, as the current Shanghai Ranking shows. Augsburg's mathematics department is well connected internationally in research and teaching and also offers courses taught in English. “We are proud of the fact that we provide our students with the best possible training, both professionally and personally, to take on responsibility in research and society,” says Prof. Dr. Reinhard Oldenburg, Managing Director of the Institute of Mathematics. Graduates of the Mathematics Master's program go on to work in insurance companies, in the medical and pharmaceutical industries, in the field of renewable energies and mobile technologies, as well as in science and research. The ranking of the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE) evaluates the study conditions in individual subjects at over 300 universities in Germany. The evaluations are based on detailed surveys of the respective students. Around 7,500 students were surveyed for this year's Master's ranking. The ranking also includes facts about studies, teaching and research. Each subject is re-evaluated every three years.Small study groups and very strong in research
