The general study situation, the range of courses on offer and the support provided by lecturers were rated highly in the ranking. Exercises and practicals take place in small groups in Augsburg. Individual profile development is possible thanks to the wide range of options in theoretical physics and experimental physics in the fields of quantum physics, materials physics and biophysics.

The research orientation indicator scored above average. “The involvement of students in current research questions and projects is essential in order to provide them with the best possible training for professional life - whether in academia or industry,” explains the Managing Director of the Institute of Physics, Prof. Dr. Philipp Gegenwart. The institute is very strong in research. It has a high proportion of third-party funding and is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, e.g. at the DFG-funded Center for Electron Microscopy. With their final theses, students are directly involved in top international research projects.

Students have the opportunity to move along the spectrum between pure basic research and research with a direct focus on application - depending on the future career they have in mind. The wide range of internships offered during the course, which can also be completed in local industrial companies, allows students to get to know individual areas.

The ranking of the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE) evaluates the study conditions in individual subjects at over 300 universities in Germany. The evaluations are based on detailed surveys of the respective students. Around 7,500 students were surveyed for this year's Master's ranking.
