About the project

Abstract

The aim of the project is to optimize pain treatment through automatic detection of physical pain and to reduce mental pain through affect management adapted to individuals in order to improve the well-being and quality of life of older adults.

?

Description

The project aims to develop an automatic system for differentiated, multi-sensory recognition of pain, states of disorientation or confusion and associated emotions such as panic, fear and anger. The emotional state of those affected will be detected reliably and quickly by combining data of paralinguistic, psychobiological and visual parameters.

Furthermore, an avatar, i.e. a digital, artificial figure, is to be developed for crisis interventions. The avatar should engage in a dialogue with the affected person and offer reassurance, memory support and assistance. In order to achieve these goals, taking ethical and data protection issues into account, representatives from the fields of engineering sciences, neuropsychology and interaction design are collaborating within the project.
