Doctorate successfully completed

Congratulations! Dr. rer. nat. Konxhe Kulaj has successfully defended her doctoral thesis "Adipocyte-derived Extracellular Vesicles in Metabolic Disease: Regulators of Insulin Secretion with Diagnostic Potential". Her research demonstrated that extracellular vesicles can enhance insulin secretion by delivering specific proteins to pancreatic beta cells. Additionally, her findings emphasize the promising role of these vesicles as diagnostic tools for metabolic diseases.

Our publication "Adipocyte-derived extracellular vesicles increase insulin secretion through transport of insulinotropic protein cargo" was published in Nature Communications in February 2023 and investigates the influence of extracellular vesicles from adipose tissue on pancreatic insulin secretion.

This presents a great opportunity for her to discuss her research with international experts in the field of extracellular vesicles.

DZD international Research School

We take pride in the accomplishment of our PhD student, Sneha Prakash, who earned the opportunity to participate in the international Diabetes Research School organized by the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD) in Hamburg. She presented her research project on diabetic nephropathy through a poster presentation addressing queries from esteemed experts in the field.

Doctoral examination successfully passed

Hats off to Dr. rer. nat. Michaela Bauer for the successful defense of her doctoral thesis "The Role of Extracellular Vesicles in Metabolic Diseases." Her research centered on the characterisation of extracellular vesicles from adipocytes, studying their changes in obesity, and understanding their impact on metabolically active cells, especially pancreatic islet cells.
