Abstract

?

This presentation outlines a 15-year research journey in aerobiology, focusing on its relevance to
human health and agriculture. The work began with traditional aerobiological approaches, relying
on simple atmospheric models and microscopic detection methods. Over time, these have evolved
into more advanced modelling techniques, including the use of artificial intelligence, and modern
detection technologies such as automated instruments and DNA-based methods.
The presentation shows results from these innovations and demonstrates how their detecting of
airborne pollen and fungal spores have the potential to revolutionise our understanding of airborne
microorganisms. Moreover, they offer significant improvements in service delivery for both
agricultural stakeholders and individuals affected by hay fever.
