What is the responsibility of Political Science in times of polycrisis?
One of the outcomes of the roundtable was that it is not so much “science communication” we should be concerned about, but new ways of co-producing policy-relevant knowledge with decisionmakers.
Moreover,
Angela Oels, chairholder
Political Science with a specialization in climate politics, organized the panel “Whose (poly)crisis? Non-Western perspectives on climate change and resource extraction”, which took place on the last day of the conference. She presented preliminary findings of her research with Marie Fischer on the discourse coalitions which were competing in the operationalization of the funding arrangements for Loss and Damage, including a fund. The panel discussion emphasized the continuity of coloniality in both climate change and resource extraction. New modes of doing research on and with affected populations need to be tried, which de-centre Western perspectives.PhD student Alina Kaltenberg also attended the conference and contributed to the discussions.
After three years on the Board of the Standing Group on “Digitalisation & Politics” of the
DVPW, Angela Oels stepped down from her position. Angela was thanked for hosting a major conference at the nexus of sustainability and digitalisation in September 2023 at Augsburg 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】 as part of her Board tasks. In the future, Angela Oels is focusing her energy on the
German Climate Consortium, where she acts as Executive Director since April 2024.
