PhD student (m/f/d), Faculty of Applied Computer Science
The Institute of Geography of the Faculty of Applied Computer Science at the 威尼斯赌博游戏_威尼斯赌博app-【官网】 of Augsburg has a vacancy starting 1 February 2025 for a PhD student (m/f/d) in fixed-term employment for a period of 3 years (pay group 13 TV-L / 65 %). The PhD student (m/f/d) will join the EARL project hosted by the Bavarian Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry, which generally focuses on the long-term changes in erosion potential in most of?Bavaria (southern Germany) due to climate and land management changes. The PhD candidate will work on large-scale and multi-process erosion modelling to regionalise results from long-term experiments. Water and tillage erosion will be simulated using a conceptual model, which will be tested using multi-scale data. A vital aspect of this research is the comparison with a large-scale daily erosion classification currently being developed by the working group using an AI big data approach. This comparison is expected to yield new, innovative insights into erosion modelling. The PhD student (m/f/d) will be integrated into the Water and Soil Resources Research working group, a team engaged in several erosion-related projects across Europe and the Global South. In addition to the dynamic exchange within this vibrant working group, the Institute of Geography offers a comprehensive program of graduate courses for PhD students. Applicants (m/f/d) should hold a master’s degree with coursework and/or work experience in soil science, physical geography, agronomy, or related fields. Experience with environmental models and programming knowledge is advantageous. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
