Mathematical Imaging

The professorship is to be filled on a temporary basis as a civil servant for a period of six years. In case of a positive evaluation, the appointment is tenured as a university professor of grade W3 as a civil servant for life. The university's tenure-track regulation applies. The application of qualified early career scientists is particularly welcome.

The future holder of the professorship should be an internationally visible expert in the field of mathematical imaging (e.g. image processing, image reconstruction or related areas). Their (m/f/d) research has applications in medicine or the natural sciences.

The future holder of the professorship represents mathematical imaging in research and teaching at the Institute of Mathematics. Experience in the acquisition of third-party funds and in interdisciplinary research cooperation is expected. The professorship is part of the university’s research cluster Centre for Advanced Analytics and Predictive Sciences (CAAPS). The future holder of the position is expected to be strongly involved in collaborations with other members of the centre. The teaching responsibilities include courses for the joint study programmes of Mathematics and Computer Science, study programmes in Mathematics, as well as service for other disciplines.

Requirements for the employment are a relevant university degree, pedagogical aptitude, the ability to do scientific work, which is usually verified by a doctorate, as well as the habilitation or proof of equivalent scientific achievements in the field of mathematics, which may also have been achieved in the context of a junior professorship. Leadership of a junior research group is considered an equivalent academic achievement under the conditions specified in Art. 98 Para 10 Sentence 5 BayHIG.

An appointment to the civil service may only be made until the age of 52 (Art. 10 Abs. 3 Satz 2 BayHSchPG). Exceptions are only possible in exceptional cases.
